- Open the simulator and pick GBP/USD from the instrument list - or EUR/USD, GBP/JPY, EUR/GBP and the rest of the 105.
- Choose a start date and timeframe. The chart hides everything after it, so you read the same bars a trader had at the time rather than a chart you already know the answer to.
- Replay bar by bar and place trades with the mouse. Drag the stop and target on the chart and the lot size follows from your risk percent.
- Read the report. Win rate, expectancy, profit factor, Sharpe and drawdown across the session, saved to your trading journal so the sample accumulates.

4,296 GBP/USD daily bars, 2010-04-07 to 2026-09-25, FxBacktest archive, weekend stubs excluded; the all-years row covers the whole archive.
Across sixteen years the median cable day covers 97.8 pips against 78.8 on EUR/USD - 1.24 times as far. The gap is not constant: it widens in years when sterling has its own story (1.61× in the 2016 referendum year, 1.76× in the 2019 Brexit deadlock) and narrows toward parity when both pairs are mostly trading the dollar. A EUR/USD system moved to cable unchanged gets stopped out by ordinary noise in the sterling-driven years.
The tail is fatter too. 22.2% of cable days range more than 1% of price, against 21% on EUR/USD, and the widest day in the archive, 24 June 2016, covered 9.78% from high to low. If your sample includes that week, check whether one event is carrying the result.
35,753 GBP/USD hourly bars, 2021-01-03 to 2026-09-25, FxBacktest archive. Each block is the average of its three hourly medians. The 06:00-09:00 block holds the London open and most UK data releases.
