The data

Nine years of Ethereum, seven days a week.

Tick-derived OHLC bars from the same archive our published research is computed on. Lower timeframes cover shorter windows because the underlying data is far denser - the table is exactly what you can replay today.

Measured

Ethereum is Bitcoin with the volume turned up.

Median ETH/USD daily range as a percentage of price, against Bitcoin on the same days, weekends included, from 2018 to September 2026.

3,063 ETH/USD daily bars, 2017-12-11 to 2026-09-25, FxBacktest archive, all seven days. Weekend coverage in the archive is thinner before 2021, so treat the early rows as indicative.

Ethereum has out-ranged Bitcoin in every year of the archive: the median ETH day moved 4.95% of price against 3.78% for Bitcoin. The ratio is not stable, though. It dropped to 1.17× in 2023 and 2024 and jumped to 1.68× in 2025. A Bitcoin strategy run on Ethereum unchanged takes on a third to two-thirds more risk per trade, depending on the year.

Half of all Ethereum days - 49.2% - range more than 5% from high to low, against 33.1% on Bitcoin. A 2% stop that fits a quiet forex pair sits inside an ordinary Ethereum hour. Size from the range, and read weekday and weekend trades separately: Sunday is the quietest day of the week on both coins.

49,759 Ethereum hourly bars, 2021-01-01 to 2026-09-25, FxBacktest archive. Each block is the average of its three hourly medians. Values are in US dollars per coin. There is no exchange open, so the profile is flatter than on an index or currency pair.

How it works

Four steps, about a minute.

  1. Open the simulator and pick ETH/USD from the instrument list - or Bitcoin, Litecoin, Cardano, Bitcoin Cash and the rest of the 105.
  2. Choose a start date and timeframe. The chart hides everything after it, so you read the same bars a trader had at the time rather than a chart you already know the answer to.
  3. Replay bar by bar and place trades with the mouse. Drag the stop and target on the chart and the lot size follows from your risk percent.
  4. Read the report. Win rate, expectancy, profit factor, Sharpe and drawdown across the session, saved to your trading journal so the sample accumulates.
