What FxBacktest does
FxBacktest is a browser-based forex backtesting simulator. It loads real historical OHLC price data and lets you replay it one candle at a time, exactly as if the market were live. You set entry rules, drag stop loss and take profit lines, click Buy or Sell, and the tool records the result. At the end of a session it shows you win rate, risk-to-reward distribution, maximum drawdown, profit factor, and expectancy.
Everything runs in the browser. There is no software to install, no broker connection, and no data subscription required. You can start a backtest in under a minute.
Who it is for
FxBacktest is built for discretionary forex traders — people who read price action, market structure, candlestick patterns, or session behaviour, and need to test those judgements on real historical charts before risking capital. It covers 93 instruments including EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, Gold (XAU/USD), US indices, crypto, and others, across seven timeframes from M1 to Weekly.
It is equally useful for complete beginners who want to understand how a setup behaves across hundreds of historical trades, and for experienced traders who want to validate a rule change before applying it live.
Why manual backtesting matters
Automated backtesting tools run thousands of trades in seconds, but discretionary strategies contain judgement that a script cannot replicate. When you replay charts manually, you practice the decision itself — not just the outcome. You expose hindsight bias, identify which session conditions favour your setup, and see how your drawdown looks before any real money is on the line.
Manual backtesting is also the fastest way to build genuine screen time. Live markets move slowly. With chart replay you can cover months of price data in an hour.
How it works
Select an instrument and timeframe, load the historical data, and begin replaying bars. When your setup appears, drag the TP and SL lines to your target levels. The tool auto-calculates lot size from your configured risk percentage and account balance. After placing the trade, continue stepping through bars until it closes. All trades are logged automatically, and a full analytics report is available at any point.
A Pro plan unlocks additional instruments, extended data history, and session analytics. The core backtesting tool is free to use without an account.
Articles and guides
The Articles section covers the core concepts behind forex backtesting — how to structure a test, how to read results, how to manage risk, and how to avoid the most common mistakes. Articles are written for traders at all levels, from beginners learning what a backtest is to experienced traders refining their process.
Who writes the guides
Every guide on FxBacktest is written by Vasil K., founder and CEO of FxBacktest, and reviewed by the FxBacktest team before publishing. Vasil built the simulator itself — the replay engine, the auto lot-sizing, the session reports — and the guides document the same backtesting method the tool is designed around: written rules, honest bar-by-bar replay, realistic costs, and verdicts drawn from logged trades rather than impressions.
The articles deliberately avoid two things: signals or predictions of any kind, and claims the tool's own data cannot support. Where a guide discusses a competing product, it links to that vendor's official site and states plainly what the competitor does better. Corrections are applied directly to the affected article and its updated date is bumped — if you spot an error, reach out through your dashboard's contact option and it will be fixed.
