The data

Sixteen years of the Aussie, already loaded.

Tick-derived OHLC bars from the same archive our published research is computed on. Lower timeframes cover shorter windows because the underlying data is far denser - the table is exactly what you can replay today.

Measured

The Aussie wakes up in Asia. EUR/USD does not.

Median hourly range by session for AUD/USD and EUR/USD, and each session as a share of that pair's own busiest hour, January 2021 to September 2026.

35,763 AUD/USD and 35,764 EUR/USD hourly bars, 2021-01-03 to 2026-09-25, FxBacktest archive. UTC throughout.

Measured against its own busiest hour, AUD/USD is half awake through the Asian session - 55% of peak activity at the Sydney and Tokyo open, against 37% for EUR/USD. Australian data and Chinese releases land in those hours, and the pair reacts to them. A system built on EUR/USD that sits out Asia is skipping a quiet session; the same system on the Aussie is skipping a real one.

In absolute terms the Aussie is a narrow pair: the median day covers 67.6 pips over the archive and 50.8 so far in 2026, against 78.8 and 54.3 on EUR/USD. Stops and targets copied from EUR/USD will be too wide here - size them from AUD/USD's own range.

How it works

Four steps, about a minute.

  1. Open the simulator and pick AUD/USD from the instrument list - or NZD/USD, AUD/JPY, AUD/NZD and the rest of the 105.
  2. Choose a start date and timeframe. The chart hides everything after it, so you read the same bars a trader had at the time rather than a chart you already know the answer to.
  3. Replay bar by bar and place trades with the mouse. Drag the stop and target on the chart and the lot size follows from your risk percent.
  4. Read the report. Win rate, expectancy, profit factor, Sharpe and drawdown across the session, saved to your trading journal so the sample accumulates.

Questions

AUD/USD backtesting FAQ

Is AUD/USD backtesting really free here?

Yes. AUD/USD and all 105 instruments are unlocked on the free plan, with every timeframe, full trade execution and the session report. Nothing to download, no card. Paid plans add more saved sessions, more simultaneous indicators and deeper analytics - not the AUD/USD chart or its history.

How much AUD/USD history can I replay?

Daily and 4-hour bars from June 2010 and hourly from July 2010. 30-minute data starts in July 2018, 15-minute in July 2022, 5-minute in April 2025 and 1-minute in April 2026.

When is AUD/USD most active?

Like every major, it peaks in the London-New York overlap, 12:00-16:00 UTC. Unlike EUR/USD, it also stays at about half of that activity through the Sydney and Tokyo sessions.

Can I backtest other Aussie pairs?

Yes. AUD/JPY, AUD/NZD, AUD/CAD, AUD/CHF, EUR/AUD and GBP/AUD are on the same free plan with the same replay engine and report - all listed on the backtest hub.
