- Open the simulator and pick EUR/USD from the instrument list - or GBP/USD, gold and the rest of the 105.
- Choose a start date and timeframe. The chart hides everything after it, so you read the same bars a trader had at the time rather than a chart you already know the answer to.
- Replay bar by bar and place trades with the mouse, with stops, targets and position size handled in pips and lots.
- Read the report. Win rate, expectancy, profit factor, Sharpe and drawdown across the session, saved to your trading journal so the sample accumulates.

Monday is the quiet day. Thursday is not.

2,789 EUR/USD daily bars, 4 January 2016 to 11 September 2026, FxBacktest archive. Weekend stub bars excluded. Across all days the median is 69.4 pips; 11.8% of days range less than 40 pips and 19.9% more than 100.
The typical Thursday moves 23% more than the typical Monday. A breakout rule that needs 70 pips of follow-through clears that on an ordinary Thursday and misses it on an ordinary Monday - so if your sample is drawn unevenly from the week, its win rate partly reflects which days it happened to land on. When you read a backtest, check results by weekday before trusting the headline number.
The spread of outcomes matters as much as the middle. One day in five covers more than 100 pips and one in nine covers less than 40, so a fixed 30-pip target is a walkover on some days and a stretch on others. Tie stops and targets to the day's range rather than to a fixed pip count and the strategy travels across those regimes.

EUR/USD backtesting FAQ
Is EUR/USD backtesting really free here?
Yes. EUR/USD and all 105 instruments are unlocked on the free plan, with every timeframe, full trade execution and the session report. Nothing to download, no card. The one depth limit is minute data: free and Pro replay the latest 6 months of M1 and 9 months of M5 on EUR/USD, and Ultra unlocks the full archive back to 2016.
How much EUR/USD history can I replay?
Daily and 4-hour bars from April 2010 and hourly from July 2010 - about 16 years and 100,000 hourly bars. 15-minute and 30-minute bars run from January 2016, as does the minute data, with nearly 4 million 1-minute bars.
Which day does EUR/USD move the most?
Thursday. Across 2,789 trading days from 2016 to 2026, the median EUR/USD day covers 74.8 pips on Thursday against 60.8 pips on Monday, with Wednesday and Friday close behind. Monday is the quietest day of the week by a clear margin.
Is EUR/USD a good pair to start backtesting on?
Yes. It is the most traded currency pair, has the deepest history in our archive, and its typical day of about 69 pips is large enough to show a setup working but small enough that sizing mistakes are forgiving. Once a strategy holds on EUR/USD, test it on GBP/USD or gold to see whether it depends on that pair's calmer behaviour.
