Key takeaways
- TradingView's free plan replays daily charts only. Intraday replay starts at Essential, $14.95 a month.
- TradingView does not keep your replay trades. You can trade in replay, but the results exist only in that session.
- FX Replay is built to keep them - but its free tier holds 2 sessions and deletes data after a week.
Short answer: use TradingView if you want the best charts and only need to rehearse structure. Use FX Replay - or another dedicated simulator - if you want a record of trades and a performance report you can come back to. TradingView's bar replay is a charting feature that has grown trading on top. FX Replay is a backtesting product built on replay. The difference shows up the moment you close the tab.
FX Replay's figures are from its pricing page and TradingView's from its plans page and Bar Replay help article, read in the first week of October 2026.

Can you trade in TradingView bar replay?
Yes - and this is often misreported. Since TradingView added trading to Replay mode, you can open positions and place market, limit, stop and stop-limit orders on historical bars. But TradingView's own help notes the catch: data on replay trades and the overall result are available only in that session and are not saved anywhere. Close the replay and the trades are gone. There is also no equity curve, no drawdown and no expectancy across sessions.
That is the deciding difference for backtesting. A backtest is a sample of trades you can count, compare and revisit. If the tool forgets the sample, you are keeping it in a spreadsheet by hand - which works, but at that point you are the backtesting software. More in TradingView backtesting.
What intraday replay costs on each
TradingView's minute-replay depth is tiered: 180 days on Essential, 365 on Plus ($34.95) and everything on Premium. FX Replay's Intermediate replays every timeframe but keeps your work for six months and allows three indicators. For a full breakdown of each free tier, see TradingView bar replay free limits and is FX Replay free.
The test for any replay tool: after 100 trades, can you open one screen and see your win rate, average R and drawdown? On TradingView the answer is no. On FX Replay it is yes, within your plan's retention window.
Which one to choose
Choose TradingView if you already chart there, want to rehearse how a setup unfolds, and are happy to log results yourself. Its charts and community scripts are unmatched.
Choose FX Replay if you want a saved trade record and a report, trade futures as well as forex, and are willing to pay $17.99 to $35 a month once you outgrow the free tier.
Use both if you like TradingView for analysis: chart there, then run the sample in a simulator that keeps it.
Where FxBacktest fits
This is our product, so weigh this section accordingly. FxBacktest is a manual bar-replay simulator that runs in the browser. The free plan unlocks all 105 instruments - forex, metals, energy, indices, crypto and stocks - and every timeframe from one minute to monthly, with full trade execution, automatic lot sizing from the stop and the complete session report. It is capped at 3 saved sessions and 1 indicator at a time, and nothing you save is deleted on a timer. Pro is €12 a month and Ultra €39.
Against both, the difference is the free plan: intraday replay on every timeframe, trades executed and saved, the full report, and no retention timer on what you save. The trade-offs: fewer markets than FX Replay (no futures, no seconds candles) and simpler charts than TradingView.
Disclosure: FxBacktest is our own product. Its limitations are stated as plainly as everyone else's, and every competitor figure on this page links to its source.
Bottom line
FX Replay vs TradingView is a question of what you want left after the replay. TradingView gives you the better chart and forgets the trades. FX Replay keeps the trades and charges for the history. Decide which of those you need, and remember a free option covers the second. For the whole field, see the best forex backtesting software.
