TradingView Bar Replay Free Limits: Daily Charts Only

TradingView's free plan does include bar replay - but only on daily and higher charts. The moment your strategy lives on H1, M15 or M5, replay becomes a paid feature, and how far back you can go depends on which plan you buy. Here is every limit, by plan.

Key takeaways

  • Free Basic replays daily, weekly and monthly charts only - with all available history, but no intraday timeframes at all.
  • Intraday replay starts on Essential ($14.95/mo) with 180 days of 1-minute history; Plus doubles it, Premium removes the limit.
  • Free is genuinely usable for daily swing setups. It is the intraday trader who has to pay.

Short answer: TradingView bar replay is free on daily, weekly and monthly charts, and paid on everything below that. On the Basic plan you can open any symbol, pick a start date years back, and step through daily candles one at a time with the whole history available. What you cannot do on Basic is replay a minute-based chart - not H4, not H1, not M15. That is the single limit that decides whether the free plan works for you, and it depends entirely on the timeframe your strategy trades.

Every figure below is from TradingView's own pricing table and its help article on replay data, read on 3 October 2026. TradingView adjusts plans regularly, so check them before you subscribe.

The minute-based figures are for the 1-minute chart, and they scale with the interval. TradingView's help article gives the formula: Essential replays six months back multiplied by the interval in minutes, so 12 months of 2-minute, 30 months of 5-minute and 90 months of 15-minute data. Plus uses one year as the base: 5 years of 5-minute and 15 years of 15-minute. Premium and Ultimate replay everything TradingView stores. Annual billing lowers every paid price.

What the daily-only limit means in practice

Whether the free plan is enough comes down to how many trades your strategy needs and which timeframe it trades on. A usable sample is around 100 trades for one setup.

  • Daily swing strategies: free Basic is genuinely workable. A daily setup that triggers twice a month needs about four years of history for 100 trades, and Basic replays all of it. If this is you, there is no reason to pay for replay.
  • H4 and H1 strategies: not possible on Basic. You can study an H1 chart, but you cannot replay it, which means you can see every outcome before you decide - the opposite of a fair test.
  • M15 and M5 strategies: need Essential at least. Essential's 30 months of 5-minute history is plenty for most intraday setups; its 180 days of 1-minute data is the tight one.

There is a quieter limit too: Basic allows 2 indicators per chart. Many strategies use a trend filter plus an entry trigger plus a volatility measure, and the third one does not fit.

Why replay matters at all: scrolling back through a static chart is not backtesting. You already know what happened next, and your eye goes straight to the setups that worked. Replay hides the future, so you have to decide on the same information a trader had at the time. A free plan that only replays daily charts quietly pushes intraday traders back into the scrolling habit.

Which plan to buy for replay

If replay is the reason you are upgrading, match the plan to the lowest timeframe you trade:

  • H1 to M15: Essential at $14.95 a month. Ninety months of 15-minute replay covers several market regimes.
  • M5 with a long sample, or M1: Plus at $34.95. A year of 1-minute data and five years of 5-minute.
  • Seconds charts or unlimited history: Premium at $69.95.
  • Tick-by-tick replay: Ultimate at $239.95 - and only the last 7 days.

One thing worth separating: TradingView is a charting platform first, and replay is a feature of it. You can place trades during replay, but you are working inside a chart rather than a tool built around accumulating a sample and reading its statistics. That is not a criticism of the charts, which are the best available - it is why many traders pair TradingView with a dedicated simulator. The longer version is in TradingView vs dedicated backtesting, and the step-by-step for using replay itself is in how to backtest on TradingView.

Free intraday replay elsewhere

This is where we have a stake, so read it with that in mind. FxBacktest replays every timeframe from one minute to monthly on its free plan, across 105 instruments - forex, indices, gold, crypto and stocks - with trade execution and a full session report of win rate, expectancy, profit factor and drawdown. The free caps are 3 saved sessions and 1 indicator at a time.

The trade-offs run against us: TradingView has tens of thousands of symbols, far more indicators and drawing tools, and a community nobody else matches. We do not try to replace that. If your gap is specifically "I need to replay an H1 chart and I do not want to pay for it yet", that is the gap we fill. Other free and paid options are compared in the best forex backtesting software and whether FX Replay is free.

Bottom line

TradingView's free plan replays daily, weekly and monthly charts with all their history, which is enough for daily swing traders and nothing else. Intraday replay starts on Essential at $14.95 a month with 180 days of 1-minute data, Plus doubles the minute history, and Premium removes the limit. Decide by the lowest timeframe you trade: if it is the daily, stay free; if it is anything below, either pay for the plan that covers it or replay it somewhere that does it free.

TradingView Bar Replay Free FAQ

Is TradingView bar replay free?

Partly. On the free Basic plan, bar replay works on daily, weekly and monthly charts with all available history. Intraday replay - any minute-based timeframe such as M15 or H1 - is not available on Basic and starts on the paid Essential plan.

Can I replay the 1-hour or 15-minute chart on TradingView for free?

No. TradingView's pricing table shows no minute-based replay history on Basic. Essential replays 180 days of 1-minute data (scaling to about 90 months on 15-minute), Plus replays 365 days of 1-minute data, and Premium and Ultimate replay all minute data TradingView stores.

Which TradingView plan do I need for intraday bar replay?

Essential at $14.95 a month is the cheapest plan with intraday replay. Plus at $34.95 doubles the minute history, Premium at $69.95 removes the history limit and adds seconds-based replay, and Ultimate at $239.95 adds 7 days of tick replay. Annual billing is cheaper.

Is there a free alternative for intraday bar replay?

Yes. FxBacktest replays every timeframe from one minute to monthly on its free plan, across 105 instruments, with trade execution and a session report. It has far fewer symbols and indicators than TradingView, so it complements TradingView's charting rather than replacing it.
