Key takeaways
- The free TradesViz plan has no simulator. Basic is a stocks-only journal; the trading simulator and backtesting start on Pro.
- Fine-grained but recent data. The simulator uses 5-second bars from mid-2021, about a day behind the market.
- Cheap for a journal. Pro is $14.99 a month billed yearly - if you want the journal, it is good value.
Short answer: TradesViz is excellent value if you want a trading journal with a simulator attached. If you only want to backtest forex, its free plan will not do it, and its simulator data starts in 2021. TradesViz built its reputation on journaling and analytics, and its simulator is a strong addition - second-by-second replay across stocks, futures, forex and options. The limits are where it sits in the plans and how far back its data goes.
Plan details are from TradesViz's own pricing page and simulator guide, read on 4 October 2026.

The simulator itself is well specified: 5-second bars, more than 900 forex pairs, US stocks, futures and options, with data from mid-2021 onward, updated daily with roughly a one-day delay.
The data window is the real limit
Mid-2021 to now is a little over five years, and fine-grained. That is plenty for a scalper. For a swing trader it is a narrow window: it misses 2020, the 2015-2016 franc and Brexit shocks, and the low-volatility years of 2017-2019. A strategy that only ever saw the post-2021 market has not been tested on a quiet one.
FxBacktest depth is for EUR/USD and GBP/USD; minute history on most other instruments is shorter. TradesViz's 5-second bars are finer than our one-minute bars.
Which one to choose
Choose TradesViz if you want to journal your live trades, trade stocks, futures or options as well as forex, and want second-by-second replay of the last few years. At $14.99 a month billed yearly, journal and simulator together are good value.
Choose a dedicated forex replay simulator if you only need to backtest, want to start free, or need history from before 2021 to test across regimes.
Where FxBacktest fits
This is our product, so weigh this section accordingly. FxBacktest is a manual bar-replay simulator that runs in the browser. The free plan unlocks all 105 instruments - forex, metals, energy, indices, crypto and stocks - and every timeframe from one minute to monthly, with full trade execution, automatic lot sizing from the stop and the complete session report. It is capped at 3 saved sessions and 1 indicator at a time, and nothing you save is deleted on a timer. Pro is €12 a month and Ultra €39.
Against TradesViz, the trade-offs are real: we do not import live broker trades, we have no options or futures, and our finest bar is one minute, not five seconds. What we add is depth - forex from 2010 on H1 - and a free plan that includes the simulator.
Disclosure: FxBacktest is our own product. Its limitations are stated as plainly as everyone else's, and every competitor figure on this page links to its source.
Bottom line
TradesViz is a journal that happens to have a good simulator, and it is priced well for that. If you are not going to use the journal, you are paying for it to reach the simulator, and the simulator's history begins in 2021. A free forex replay tool covers the backtesting on its own.
