Coverage as of October 2026 and growing nightly. One standard lot is 100,000 euros and a pip is 0.01, so one pip is worth 1,000 yen per lot - the simulator converts it to your account currency.

4,257 EUR/JPY daily bars, 28 June 2010 to 22 October 2026, FxBacktest archive, weekend stubs excluded. The widest day in the archive is 24 June 2016, the morning after the Brexit vote: 1,011 pips, 8.50% of price.
In pips the euro-yen day doubled from 2021 to 2022 and has stayed wide since, while as a share of price it is back near its 2019 low - the yen price of a euro rose from about 120 to over 170. Size stops from the range in percent or from ATR, never from a fixed pip count copied from an older backtest.
Unlike EUR/USD, EUR/JPY does not go quiet in Asia. The Tokyo morning, 00:00-03:00 UTC, moves about 20 pips an hour, three quarters of the busiest block. A session filter copied from a euro-dollar backtest throws away real opportunity here, or hides real risk.
36,222 EUR/JPY hourly bars, 3 January 2021 to 22 October 2026. Each block is the average of its three hourly medians, in pips. The London open (06:00-09:00) and the US data window (12:00-15:00) are the two busiest blocks.

Two legs, one cross
EUR/JPY is EUR/USD times USD/JPY. Backtest the USD/JPY leg on the same dates to see which half of the move your setup was really trading.

GBP/JPY carries the same yen leg with a more volatile pound. A rule that works on both crosses is less likely to be a fit to one pair's noise.
Backtest GBP/JPY → Original researchSize in percent, not pips
The median EUR/JPY day ranged from 63 pips in 2019 to 136 in 2022. Our average daily range study compares markets as a share of price, the only comparison that holds across years.

Open the simulator and pick EUR/JPY from the instrument list - or USD/JPY, GBP/JPY, AUD/JPY, CHF/JPY and the rest of the 105.
Choose a start date and timeframe. The chart hides everything after it, so you read the same bars a trader had at the time rather than a chart you already know the answer to.
Replay bar by bar and place trades with the mouse. The lot size follows from your risk percent and stop distance, with the yen pip value converted for you.
Read the report. Win rate, expectancy, profit factor, Sharpe and drawdown across the session, saved to your trading journal so the sample accumulates.
EUR/JPY backtesting FAQ
Is EUR/JPY backtesting really free here? +
Yes. EUR/JPY and all 105 instruments are unlocked on the free plan, with every timeframe, full trade execution and the session report. Nothing to download, no card. Paid plans add more saved sessions, more simultaneous indicators, deep minute history and tick data - not the EUR/JPY chart itself.
How much EUR/JPY history can I replay? +
Daily and 4-hour bars go back to June 2010, and hourly, 30-minute and 15-minute bars to 2010 as well. The free plan keeps the most recent 9 months of 5-minute bars and 6 months of 1-minute bars; on Ultra both reach back to 2010.
What is one pip worth on EUR/JPY? +
One standard lot is 100,000 euros and a pip is 0.01, so one pip is worth 1,000 yen per lot - about 6.50 US dollars at a USD/JPY rate near 153. The simulator sizes the lot from your risk percent and stop distance and converts the pip value for you.
When is EUR/JPY most active? +
Between 12:00 and 15:00 UTC, when US data lands in the London afternoon - a median 26.5 pips per hour from 2021 to 2026. Unlike EUR/USD, the Tokyo morning is busy too, at about 20 pips per hour.
