Coverage as of October 2026. Prices are not split-adjusted: Alphabet's 20-for-1 split shows on the chart as a drop from $2,253 to $113 at the open of 18 July 2022. Run daily-chart tests on one side of that date.
Most of a Google day happens in its first hour.
Median range of each 30-minute GOOG bar as a share of price, by New York clock time, every full session from September 2024 to September 2026.
496 full GOOG sessions, 2024-09-16 to 2026-09-16, FxBacktest archive, 30-minute bars. Half-days excluded.
The 09:30 bar is 3.5 times as wide as the typical midday bar, and the range thins through the afternoon to its low around 14:30-15:00 before the close lifts it again. On 91.7% of these sessions the day's high or low - one of the two - was already in place by 10:30, and the first hour alone covered a median 75.2% of the whole day's range. A strategy that only trades after lunch is working with the leftovers; one that trades the open needs a stop sized for the open, not for the daily average.

Three things that change a Google backtest.
Size in percent, not dollars
A Google stop in dollars means something different every time the price doubles. The range study compares markets as a share of price.

Nvidia's median day ranged 2.96% of price against Google's 1.99%. Same opening-hour shape, bigger numbers.

6.5% of Google opens gap more than 2%. A stop below the gap fills at the open, not at your price - size for the gap, not the stop.

Backtest Google (GOOG) FAQ
Is Google backtesting really free here?
Yes. GOOG and all 105 instruments are unlocked on the free plan, with every timeframe, full trade execution and the session report. Nothing to download, no card.
How much Google history can I replay?
Daily, 4-hour and hourly bars go back to January 2018. M30 data starts in September 2024 and 1-minute data in September 2025.
Does the Google chart include the 2022 stock split?
Yes, unadjusted. Bars before 18 July 2022 are in pre-split dollars (above $2,000), bars after it in post-split dollars (around $110). A session that spans the date sees a 95% gap, so start after it or stop before it.
Is Google less volatile than Nvidia and Tesla?
Yes, clearly. Over the same July 2023 to September 2026 window the median Google session ranged about 2% of price, against 2.96% for Nvidia and 3.72% for Tesla. Google also gaps less: half of its opens land within 0.50% of the prior close.
Which other stocks can I backtest?
Sixteen US stocks: Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon, Google, Meta, AMD, Broadcom, Netflix, JPMorgan, Palantir, TSMC, Eli Lilly, Berkshire Hathaway and Oracle - plus ETFs, indices, forex, commodities and crypto on the backtest hub.
