One lot is 100 troy ounces and prices are quoted to the cent, so a $1 move on one lot is worth $100. The tick layer is described on the XAUUSD tick data page.
Median XAU/USD daily range, high minus low. In dollars it grew almost ninefold; as a share of price only about two and a half times. A stop copied in dollars from an old backtest is far too tight today.
0.87% of price. An $11 stop sat comfortably inside a normal day's range.
2.17% of price. The same $11 stop is now about a ninth of a normal day.

4,482 XAU/USD daily bars, 2009-07-21 to 2026-10-22, FxBacktest archive, weekend stubs excluded; EUR/USD from 2010. Percent columns divide the range by the open. The all-years dollar median is left out because the price itself quadrupled. Before 2026 the widest day was the 15 April 2013 crash at 10.80%. A backtest that stops at 2025 describes a calmer market than the one you would trade now — report the years separately, and size from the range in percent or ATR, never from a fixed dollar stop.
34,349 gold hourly bars, 2021-01-03 to 2026-10-22. Each block is the average of its three hourly medians, in dollars per ounce. The 12:00-15:00 block holds the US data releases and the COMEX open, and moves about twice as far as any other block.
The same replay engine and report as the rest of the FX Backtest simulator, with the gold specifics handled for you.
Pick any date back to 2009. Everything after it stays hidden, so you trade the bars a trader had at the time, not a chart you already know the answer to.
Drag the stop and target on the chart and the lot size follows from your risk percent, in real 100-ounce contract terms instead of forex pip values.
From moving averages and RSI to order-flow, volume profile and COT positioning on gold. Or describe a rule in plain English and the AI assistant writes it in FXScript.
NFP, CPI and FOMC markers sit on the candles they moved, so you can see the release coming and test whether your gold setup survives it. See the calendar.
Phases, profit targets, and daily and maximum drawdown checked against live equity — the way a funded-account challenge on gold actually fails you.
When one gold candle touched both your stop and target, the stop traded first about two times in three. Ultra settles every exit on the real tick. See XAUUSD tick data.

What traders ask before they replay XAU/USD.
Yes. XAU/USD and all 105 instruments are unlocked on the free plan, with every timeframe, full trade execution and the session report. Nothing to download, no card. Paid plans add more saved sessions, more simultaneous indicators, deep minute history and tick data - not the gold chart itself.
Daily and 4-hour bars go back to July 2009, and hourly, 30-minute and 15-minute bars to 2009 as well. The free plan keeps the most recent 9 months of 5-minute bars and 6 months of 1-minute bars; on Ultra both reach back to November 2009.
One standard lot of XAU/USD is 100 troy ounces, so a $1 move in the gold price is worth $100 per lot, and the smallest price step of one cent is worth $1. The simulator sizes the lot from your risk percent and stop distance, so you do not have to work it out by hand.
Yes, on Ultra. Stops and targets settle on the first tick that trades the level, market entries pay the real spread, and S5, S15 and S30 seconds charts are built from the ticks. On gold, a candle that touched both the stop and the target hit the stop first about two times in three - see XAUUSD tick data.
Not one quiet year. Replay the 2011 top, the 2013 crash and the 2026 spike, and find out whether your edge survives all of them.
